WORKOUTS I LOVED THIS MONTH
It’s been a while and...okay you would have thought I would have tried more classes than this but...I’m gonna get better...I promise!
RUMBLE
www.rumble-boxing.com
Location: 146 W. 23rd St.
Location Perks: Main perk for me is that it’s sooooooooo freakin close to Studio 26 which makes it super easy to pop on over after I finish up with clients. Rumble is close to a few major trains. Its in Chelsea so you there is no shortage of good food choices.
Amenities: Changing rooms, showers (with good products), towels are provided and you can purchase water. Wraps are $6 (yours to keep), glove rental $3.
Cost: $34/class. Also offer packages and for first timers you can buy one class get one free (love when studios do this!!!)
Been waiting for Rumble to open. I love Barry’s but can’t really do the treadmill portion of the class too often (my knee no fail always swells up) and am forced to double floor (which I totally don’t mind!). Rumble has basically the same class format as Barry’s but they incorporate boxing as opposed to the treadmill portion of the class at Barry’s. Honestly who could ask for anything more!!! HIIT, strength training, metabolic conditioning and boxing...wha??? My first class at Barry’s was with Noah Neiman so I only saw it fit that my first class at Rumble would be with him as well (he is one of the founders). He never disappoints and I wouldn’t expect him to in this arena either - his skill, energy and the music are all on point!!! I’ve been now a few times and have taken 4 different instructors and they each have their on personality but the skill, energy and music are all consistent. I took a class this past weekend with Trainer Joe (his energy was bananas!!!). The class flew by - it literally felt like it was all of 30min long but I sweated my ass off, worked my ass off and felt so damn hyped the whole time and for hours after. Rumble is about 3 blocks away from Studio 26 (where I train my clients) which makes it super easy for me to get to so...I will for sure be back!
STOKED SHRED

New obsession when I'm not freelancing! I love Tuesday mornings like crazy! I train my client at 7am. Head over to Trader Joe's to get a protein bar and then to Starbucks - I know I need to stop with Carmel Macchiato but...I sit and have my coffee and bar, read in my Daly Word, write in my journal, check out Instagram and then its time for the best part of the morning Stoked Shred!!! This class isn’t my first Stoked experience but maybe because the class setting is a lil different and the class isn’t super packed it almost feels like it is my first Stoked experience. The knowledge this lady possesses and the way she structures the class is so on point and for me, being a trainer, its just super motivational, inspirational and just gets me hyped to be a better trainer overall. And on top of all that the class is freakin killer. I leave every Tuesday feeling that I challenged my body not only in a good way but in a really smart way. Its the perfect 1 hour and 15 minute mash-up of strength, cardio and fine-tuning endurance toning. I am about to start freelancing again and won’t be able to make it to the Tuesday classes for a bit and I am so bummed! Good thing Kira also teaches at BFX - I’m gonna find a way to get STOKED!!!
WORK TRAIN FIGHT

I’ve actually had a trainer at WTF years ago and always forget that they offer classes. Dogpound was having a charity event one Saturday morning and I just really wanted to box so...this was my opportunity to finally try a class. Walking into WTF always gets me. I used to work at Crunch eons ago and some many of the trainers that were there were there when I was there work at WTF. One of the things I really liked about WTF (other than the acronym) was the environment. Their website boasts “We enforce an Asshole Free policy; keeping a positive environment for everyone is a high priority for us. If we help enough kind hearted people be stronger, then we will one day reach our goal, to change .0001% of the world (we are modest).” and they didn’t lie. I signed up for Box Work - their signature class, boxing and fitness training. The class was fabulous but I have to say what made the class was the teacher - Martin Rios. His energy was infectious and truly, truly, truly made the class. I’ve never been scared and so hyped all at the same time. We warmed up and then he split us up into to groups of 5 people, there were 3 stations and we went to each station 3xs. I wanna be able to to tell you how long we were at each station but it was all such a blur - I feel like it was 3-4mn each though. 1st station the 5 of us stood in a circle with Martin in the center with his mitts on. At first he went in order around the circle calling out punches but as time went on he began to mix it all up. This was when I became petrified - I love boxing but its still all kinda new to me and...I’m not so quick - ooooooooo wee! Everything seemed to speed up and oh my goodness I was scared but...so much fun because Martin was hilarious - serious about what we were doing but his sense of humor was so good. Station #2 was strength training - I felt good about this station and even though it was challenging it was a whole lot easier compared to station #1. Station #3 was freestyle bag. I liked this station but to be honest I was the only female in my group and was with a bunch of testosterone driven dudes - I think you get the picture. After we did each station 3xs I thought we were moving on to the cool down but...nah! I mean we eventually did but...All in all I sweated, I most definitely worked out and felt challenged but the best part was I had so much fun!
