Workout Corner
WORKOUTS I LOVED THIS MONTH
My Workout Corner this months isn’t lengthy at all. Not to say that I didn’t work out but...I have only taken two new class (thus far) and the rest of the time I went to my favs. I know I am doing myself a deservice by not trying new things but...hey I like what I like! And I always have next month to try so new classes. Here is my best workout week so far for this month:
Week of April 6th
MONDAY 4/6
8:30am
Mark - my trainer at S10 Training
As always PERFECTION!!! I always leave feeling spent but good. So far this month one of the hardest intervals this fool (only joking - kinda!) had me do at the end of my workout was:
- 10 pushups with pushup bar (wanted tricep pushups but my left shoulder has been bugging so I did traditional pushups)
- 20 double slams with the battle ropes
- weighted low sled push followed by weighted high sled push (wish I could remember what the weight was and what the distance was but it doesn’t matter the shit was hard)
3 motha fuckin rounds
TUESDAY 4/7
7:30pm
Barry’s Bootcamp (Tribecca) - Butt & Legs
This is hands down my favorite day at Barry’s - hands down. Mostly because most of my fitness goals revolve around my legs. This was my first introduction to Matt Maggiacomo class. Went into class with one hope. - that I was going to get a good ass workout and...Yo! This guy didn’t not disappoint - at all! The two things that stuck out and that I still remember were 1. we used the bands - which I hate! The exercises were awesome and my ass was on fire but it also got me to thinking how when I am training my clients I’ve been neglecting those bad boys - why? So thanks Matty! 2. the last running segement was murdah!!! Dynamic Mode - which is always a god awful thing to end on. The combo: skater 2xs each leg, followed by a light jog, followed by a sprint (tighter sprint - no long strides), folowed by another light jog and finally ending with another sprint (long strides). One more time...MURDAH!!! I sure went back the following week though for more.
WEDNESDAY 4/7
7:30pm
Alvin Ailey - Adv Beginner Hip Hop
What better way to end a work day - baila! baila! baila! Man how much do I love to dance. So much joy. I will say though there was a portion of this dance that was so challenging (to me) that by the end my head started to spin a little. Tweet Boogie (the teacher) full on commented about me starting to fade to which I full on replied “starting to?”. Still went home with a smile on my face though.
THURSDAY 4/8
REST DAY
I have a early morning client and then if I am booked I go to my freelance job and then after work I have another client so Thursdays have become my designated rest day. This particular week I didn’t freelance so I could have done something but a rest day is always a good thing!
FRIDAY 4/9
8:30am
Tone House - Conditioning Day
If you have been to Tone House just saying Conditioning Day is enough. If you haven’t been to Tone House or haven’t been to Conditionitoning Day its just non-stop - like literally non-stop. Then add Shaun Jenkins and Tamara Pridgett into the mix and...what??? The toughest part of the class: 3 people on the sleds (with sand bags on top) low push down the turf and high push back while the rest of the class does box jumps (4 boxs lined up - not sure of height of boxes but it doesn’t matter - the shit was hard!) until the next group of sled pushers are up. 2 rounds of sled pushs. If I knew how to type out the sound of me sucking my teeth I would! But you know I loved it!
SATURDAY 4/10
12:45pm
Barry’s Bootcamp - Full Body
Couldn’t get into a Tone House class so my go to is always Barry’s but I felt so damn fortunate that I was able to get into Rebecca Kennedy’s class - which I feel like is most times impossible. There are several teachers that I love at Barry’s but Rebecca might be one of my favorites. Her class is always solid - constructed in what I consider to be the perfect way. She is very hands on with giving corrections and modifications. She also pushes the hell out of you. I always leave with "lil nuggets" - ideas for exercises or new ways to work certain muscles. Love this lady!!! I also was so lucky last month to get into 3 classes of hers - Hard Core Abs being one of them. She ain’t no joke! I want to and need to try it again but I’m gonna be honest I’m kinda scared! No lie!
SUNDAY 4/11
9am
Fhitting Room
I just started putting Fhitting Room back into my mix. Reason being that they are now in Flatiron - which is a hell of a lot easier for me to get to. The new spot is beautiful!!! I signed up to take class with Julia and Farouk. The workout was fabulous (as usual) but I think the thing that really stood out to me was how the they both brokedown the exercises. I am one of those people who wants to know. I don’t claim to know everyting so...I wanna know and if you can throw in reasons why...c’mon thats a bonus. And to do it and not disrupt the flow of the class...what??? I love and think that it should be a requirement that teachers teach. The two of them were awesome!!! Oh and I just got an e-mail form them - they are going to be offering fundamental classes - to help you get comfortable with certain exercises and nail down proper form - that’s what I’m talking about - teachers teaching!!!!
I started out my entry by saying that this wouldn’t be long and...
